As creators of video ads and content, we know we have a responsibility for the carbon emissions involved in our activities and that it’s down to us to reduce them. So, we’re proud to share that Wooshii has become one of 130 brands, advertising agencies and production companies registered to use AdGreen’s carbon calculator. Launched this week, the calculator is specifically designed for the ad production industry and will allow our production teams to collaboratively measure the carbon footprint of our production and take active steps to reduce it.
How does it work?
The calculator lets users enter data in four key areas that relate to a production. Activities might include catering and collateral, travel, energy and fuels. What’s great is that everyone working on a project can add information into the tool so there’s greater oversight and understanding of where the biggest carbon impacts might be.
It will enable us to build up a really clear picture of our carbon impact at all stages of a project. This will help us make more informed decisions when it comes to our internal reduction targets. As a business, we aim to become more carbon literate in the process. What’s really exciting is that we will be able to plan ahead as draft footprints can be created at script stage so our creative teams can see if they have planned emissions into their scripts early enough. With this transparency of carbon data, we will be able to work more closely with our clients too, so that they can be informed at the procurement stage.
Cleaning up the industry
The UK advertising industry’s plan is to reach net zero by the end of 2030, known as Ad Net Zero. The need to track, measure and reduce emissions produced from ad production is paramount. AdGreen’s calculator is one step closer to achieving this.
Signing up to the tool is a significant step further in our quest to be greener and more responsible for our carbon footprint. We have been working hard to build up our global network of creators which means we don’t have to send film crews and equipment around the globe – they’re already there. This has meant a reduction in emissions, no customs red tape and delays and no loss of kit in transit.
