Safemate Personal Alarm

The Safemate project is about exploiting the recent advances in technology to present to our customers personal Safety alarms that are easy for anyone to operate - at an affordable price.

Our typical customer can be anyone, I write a little bit more on that under "About the Brand".

The Safemate tracker unit (worn by the user) uses the newest GPSes on the market - optionally GSM triangulation - to know the location of the user. When the button is pressed - as a result of emergency - two things will happen. First, a telephone conference is set up between the user and any number of alarm recipients that answer the call. Simultanously, SMS messages are sent out to these recipients with the exact location of the user.

Your task is to convey this concept to any person in approximately 30 seconds. The text below is work in progress, but it may also end up being our final text guiding the animation video.

Do keep in mind that many our customers are not technical at all. Steer clear of all the technical stuff (e.g. communication with sattelites, radio masts, etc.) - it is just not relevant in this short concept presentation.

The reason why we don't compete with all the app developers in the world, is that our product has only one purpose (thus one button), and can sustain harsh conditions (including floor drops, moist/water). This point is very important to us, and I feel that it is not sufficiently communicated in the text below text as is. My desire is that the animation makes it clear somehow, that a smart phone would fall short of our product (since a smart phone is far less robust).

The text is not written in stone, at least not yet, and may be modified to better suit our purpose. That also goes for the part describing potential situations were the Safemate personal alarm may come in handy (read on and it makes more sense).

We are currently in dialogue with a narrator, and if this dialogue proves fruitful, we aim to upload the mp3 file in a weeks time.

One presentation that I think works well can be found at this URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBARB4QcnoY&list=FLT6srXlSf2cG8aPiMjeXDFw&index=30&feature=plpp_video

In connection with the above link, it has to be said that I was very reluctant to do anything that potentially guide your creativity, so I have to point out that this video should by no means be regarded as restrictions or even guidelines , but it could - maybe - be an approach to follow or at least serve as inspiration.

I do not wish to present images of the product itself for a number of reasons, the most important being that we want to abstract the presentation from such visual details. The tracker unit could be thought of something that you can wear around your nect, around your arm wrist, around your upper arm, in a belt clip or in a pocket, containing one, big button with an exclamation mark on it.

Manuscript text (to be read by a narrator):

Most days are quite OK.

Most days we don't get lost in the mountain, we don't fall off a boat, we don't injure our leg hiking, we don't get jumped by assailants, and we most certainly don´t get critically ill.

But if... you would appreciate help, quickly.

With Safemate GPS Alarm, you can send your position to your friends and family with a push of a button. Your rescuers will instantly know where you are, since your´re plotted on a map we sent them.

Safemate is an easy to use, small and light weight personal alarm that you can count on, even in harsh conditions.

Safemate, one-click rescue.

About the Buyer

The world has plenty of personal alarm products to offer, but our core business idea is to present to the user something that is easy to use, reliable, accurate and rugged enough to withstand a beating and a shower. We know that we are not only selling a product, but also a service including first rate customer support and state of the are web 2.0 sites. Our customers range from kids, through women alone in the night, people working outdoor and senior citizens, to name but a few. We do not want to exclude any of these groups in this presentation.

Comments and questions about this Project

Regarding 2D vs 3D; I am only assuming that 3D is so much more expensive than 2D. But of course, if anyone out there wants to have a crack at this with 3D, feel free.

The atmosphere in this video has captured our hearts:

But. Surely there are other approaches.

One thing should be pointed out: Once an alarm is triggered, the alarm recepients are being called/SMS'ed. In most cases the recipients will be the victim's friends, family, next-of-kins, neighbours, etc. (depending on how the Safemate has been configured). Thus, our business model is not centered around emercency central stations, rather the idea is that people closest to the victim should respond (or call for further assistance).
