Commercial Video using Tilt Shift
We're looking to make a video promoting a new life science instrument where the key element of the video uses the tilt shift technique. We will make our selection for this project based on the person/team who can deliver the BEST QUALITY EXAMPLE of tilt shift footage. The example you submit does not need to be long, rather, it needs to show the quality you can produce. Quality for us is defined as successfully achieving to create an illusion of miniaturization. In other words, the quality should successfully make someone watching it UNSURE if it is real or if it is a stop motion model. QUALITY FOR US IS DEFINED AS: successfully creating an illusion of miniaturization, time elapsed effect and with proper use of focus and colors. In other words, the quality should successfully make someone watching it UNSURE whether it is real or if it is a stop motion model video Our preference is to shoot some or all of the final tilt shift scenes in London, but this is not a requirement. Without going into the complete details of the concept of this video, what you need to know is this: INTRO (regular production quality video, not tilt shift): There is about a 20 second intro. Included in this opening scene is a clean room, a white conveyor belt, and some scientists with microscopes. Then there is a transition to the tilt-shift portion of the video using a touch of CGI. TILT SHIFT PORTION: This is the core of the video and will be accompanied by music (outside the scope of this pitch and budget). This portion will be 90-120 seconds long made up of short tilt shift segments. We prefer the tilt shift portion to be shot in London but are open to other solutions. This is because we have, for now, scripted in the Gherkin building which resembles a typical sample tube. CLOSING: The closing is 5-10 seconds long and uses some seconds of CGI as a transition from tilt shift back to the “real world” in the same environment as the Intro with one of the scientists. If you are interested in pitching for this project and have experience using the tilt shift technique, then we encourage you to submit your absolute best example to show the quality as we have defined it.

Comments and questions about this Project

The T-shift effect we're looking for is to acheive a quality definied as: successfully creating an illusion of miniaturization, time elapsed effect and with proper use of focus and saturated colors. In other words, the quality should successfully make someone watching it UNSURE whether it is real or if it is a stop motion model video. the effect we're looking for creates 90-120 seconds of feel-good when combined with the sound track (we're working on that separately). There are some some good and bad examples of this on youtube. If you've got the eye, you'll see which work and which don't.

Hi Andrew

Is the pitch for the TILT SHIFT PORTION or the whole video?

Have you a location in mind to shot the Gherkin building?

Regards, Mark

Hi,
I tried to upload a video with my pitch, but I think there is something wrong with the video upload. You can watch it at my profile on wooshi or on vimeo: http://vimeo.com/12880662

thanks so far,

Hey Andrew,
nice project. For your quote I need to know what's part of the pitch. Is the pitch for the whole commercial (intro with scientists, CGI, shift + tilt footage, closing and graphics)?

Hi people - By way of an update -

I spoke to Andrew today (he is back after a long vacation). They are now considering all the proposals. Given the number (31) and scope of the project he understandably needs a week or so to digest.. Hope to have some updates next week

What happened with this project? Did someone get commissioned? Please fill us in Fergus!

i think that this project was fake nobody won it.. and everybody tried to post something, make a pitch... waste of time...
posted by Barış Gürsel 11/11/2010 23:15

Hi This project was not a fake - We would never post a fake project

It has actually been won - The buyer had requested that the winner make some pre shots before hand and the project is in production

I was unaware however that they had not selected the winner here - I will ask them to do so pronto

(And of course we will post the finished article in the blog)

My bad. I have now clicked the "Accepted" link. Truly sorry if anyone got the impression this pitch was false. We are excited about this video and hope to be done with it by Jan 1st.
