Project choices

Does anyone else find it a bit stressful (lack of a better word) that you'll never know when or if the pitch you submitted will be picked?

After the deadline is up, sometimes the companies will wait a week or a month before choosing, so it's a bit tough to estimate your time on a project if the company takes forever to choose. If they do choose me after a month or so, my time dedication will be different compared to when I was submitting my pitch and basing my pitch on the time required to make the pitch and the spare time I have.

I don't know if you guys (Wooshii) have a time limit where the company has to choose between a pitch within a given amount of time, cause I have some pitches that still have been chosen and I'd like to know if I can pitch on others without running into the problem with too many projects going on at once.

I find that a bit stressful. More so when they comment on it like they really like your work, and they will be looking at everything, they will get back to you... nothin... nothin... nothin.. And you message them back to receive nothing in return. That is what I find stressful. They should realize that it actually does take time and effort to make up a pitch for them, so the least they could do is let you know either way, out of simple etiquette. I don't know, but I would have to agree, it is a shame that they can't make up their mind. For instance, I am getting jobs outside of wooshii at the moment, but still pitch on nearly every project, they leave a comment saying they like it but then I hear nothing again. I would have to agree.

It's not that I want them to comment in return, it's just when they don't pick someone and they leave the pitches open without any winner. I just keep thinking they might pick someone and I don't want to be picked 2 months down the road expecting to work on it just as hard as I would have when I planned it for their deadline. They should pick a winner in a decent amount of time since we pitched in a decent amount of time.

That is true... but do they ever pick someone that much later? I understand the Verist labs thing, but other than them don't they just leave it wide open? And it just kind of "dies?"

hmm yeah I get your point - Perhaps the answer is to give the buyer a time limit in which to choose a winner or at least for them to state up front how long they will need to choose a winner - e.g. A winner will be chosen by [date]

I'll chat it through

Additional - We are actual right now revamping the whole pitching, project process.

One change will be making pitching even easier but if you have any other suggestions then fire them over

Glad to hear it Fergus - it'll be great to see how you streamline this a bit :-)

Actually, giving the clients a box to complete 'Sorry, I didn't pick your pitch this time, it wasn't right for us because...' would be interesting. Even if they have a list of checkboxes with an option to freetext a little would be interesting... I'd love to know, or even have an inkling on why a pitch failed, meaning I can spot patterns and hopefully improve the pitches for the future! For instance are they too conservative, too leftfield, missing the point, etc.

Also it would be a big boost to know if clients are just not taking anybody's pitch (or are timing out) as opposed to wondering if Nath has won the lot ;-)

And another thing - the briefs are still very brief as a rule, whereas more detail means we can tailor pitches closer to what the client has in mind. For instance, if they have a script, perhaps we can get the script - it could make the difference between pitching or not depending on the script contents. As it is, we're using a lot of ESP and making a lot of assumptions, but the budgets aren't big enough to absorb major rework if we ESP/assume wrongly!

lol, yeah well for the pitches that actually include my videos in their breif, I didn't even win those.

There's one that's still pending but they still haven't picked anyone and it's been about a week or so since they closed it. I'm afarid to pitch one others cause I don't want to actually end up wining more then 1 pitch at a time and not being able to focus enough time it deserves, specially since I still have school to handle.

Hopefully my response on the other thread should answer a few of these questions!
